Coravin Pivot+ is Coravin's system for wine you have already opened. Instead of pouring through the cork like the Timeless range, it replaces the cork with a special stopper and uses argon to protect what is left in the bottle. On October 12, 2026, coravin.com listed the Pivot+ kit at $199. Coravin says it keeps still wine fresh for up to four weeks.

What is in the Pivot+ box
- The Pivot wine by-the-glass system
- A Pivot Aerator
- Two Pivot Stoppers
- Two Coravin Pure argon capsules
- A bottle sleeve
Coravin describes the aerator as a way to add aeration while pouring; its comparison with decanting is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measurement by Vinabox. Extra stoppers let you keep several open bottles going at once, one stopper per bottle.
How Coravin Pivot works, step by step
- Fit the stopper. Open the bottle as usual, then insert a Pivot Stopper into the neck with its cap open. Coravin specifies that the stopper and the bottle neck should be clean and dry.
- Pour. Insert the Pivot device into the stopper until it clicks. Tip the bottle and press the button to pour; release the button to stop.
- Close. Remove the Pivot device and immediately close the stopper. Coravin recommends storing the bottle on its side in temperature-controlled conditions.
- Come back later. The remaining wine sits under argon until the next glass.
As wine leaves the bottle, argon from the capsule takes its place. Argon is an inert gas, heavier than air, that does not react with the wine. Coravin says one capsule gives about 20 glasses of 150 ml (5 oz) with Pivot, compared with about 15 with Timeless.
Pivot+ vs Timeless
| Pivot+ | Timeless Three+ | |
|---|---|---|
| US list price checked | $199 (October 12, 2026) | $279 (October 12, 2026) |
| How you access the wine | Remove the closure, fit a Pivot stopper | Needle through the natural cork, which stays in place |
| Preservation claim | Up to four weeks | Months or years for compatible corked bottles |
| Closures | Any closure, since it is removed | Natural cork; screw caps with a Coravin screw cap; synthetic corks do not reseal |
| Glasses per capsule (Coravin estimate) | About 20 x 5 oz | About 15 x 5 oz |
| Sparkling wine | No | No (separate Sparkling system) |
The decision comes down to how long you want to keep a bottle once you start it. If you drink a bottle over one to four weeks, Pivot+ is designed for that timescale. Its US purchase price is lower than the Three+ reference price, and the gas calculation depends on the manufacturer's stated yield. If you want to pour one glass of a special bottle and keep the rest for months, or taste a wine without committing to the whole bottle, only Timeless does that. Our Timeless Three+ vs Six+ comparison and the Six+ review cover that side.
Running costs: capsules and stoppers
On October 12, 2026, Coravin US listed a six-pack of argon capsules at $54.95 at the regular price. Using Coravin's estimate of about 20 pours per capsule with Pivot, the gas cost is about $0.46 per 5 oz pour. This is a calculation from the manufacturer's estimate, not a measured yield or a promotional price. Stoppers are consumables too: check the price of replacement packs on the day you buy. Use the capsule cost calculator with your own pour size and prices.
Who Pivot+ is for
- People who drink one or two glasses a night and want to keep several different bottles open at once.
- Households where one person drinks wine and the bottle usually lasts a week or more.
- Anyone whose favorite wines are under screw cap or synthetic cork, where Timeless is less practical.
It is less suited to collectors who want to sample aging bottles, and it does nothing for sparkling wine. If you usually finish a bottle within three days, a stopper and the refrigerator may be all you need; see how long wine lasts after opening.
Tips for getting the most out of Pivot+
- Fit the stopper right after opening. The argon protects the wine from the moment the stopper is in; a bottle left open on the counter for an evening has already lost some freshness.
- Keep the neck clean and dry. Coravin specifies a clean, dry stopper and bottle neck. Wipe the neck after the first pour if wine has run down it.
- One stopper per bottle. If you like several bottles open at once, buy enough stoppers rather than moving one from bottle to bottle.
- Store the bottle cool, on its side. Coravin recommends temperature-controlled storage. A wine fridge is ideal; for whites and rosés the kitchen refrigerator works, and reds can go there too if you let the glass warm up before drinking.
- Rinse the aerator and device. Follow Coravin's cleaning instructions for Pivot, especially when you switch between red and white wine.
- Taste before serving. The four-week figure is a manufacturer claim for still wine used as directed. Delicate or older wines may change sooner.
Alternatives to consider
Pivot+ sits between inexpensive tools and the Timeless range. Vacuum pumps and argon sprays cost far less and work for a few days to about a week. Timeless costs more and avoids opening the bottle. Our wine preserver comparison sets them side by side.
